"Don't Know Why There's No Sun Up In the Sky; Stormy Weather..."

This silk dress, designed and made by my former classmate Xiatong Zhao was definitely one of the coolest pieces that I had ever worn! She handprinted the empire-waist dress in an exquisite black, blue, and grey design. The tulle and other fabrics she added underneath created a fuller shape and made it very fun to walk in, since it sort of swung around me as I walked. My favorite element was the strings that she sewed around the hem in varying shades of blue for extra drama. Shooting the look outside on a cloudy day was the perfect moody, dramatic setting. Please check out Xiatong's other work on her website!

Style Tip: If you're lucky enough to wear a designer dress like this to an event then accessorize it simply and eat before you put it on or wear a napkin to be spill proof!
