"And you have broken every promise that we made"

My friend Lindsay and I were in a bar in K-Town the other day and they played about half of the soundtrack of the brilliant musical indie film, Begin Again. It stars Kiera Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, and Adam Levine and has a pretty stellar original soundtrack. I was surprised and delighted at the bar's musical choices, and have since re-visited the film's music since back when I worked the premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival last Spring (yes, I saw you-know-who!). My favorites are "A Step You Cant Take Back", "Lost Stars" (Kiera and Adam each have a version), and "Like A Fool". I suggest that you go listen to them right now, or better yet watch the film.

If you live in the city and have ever felt a little lonely, this movie will tug at your heartstrings and make you feel a lot of things. I especially appreciate that the two main characters played by Ruffalo and Knightley are male and female but they aren't the ones that are romantically intertwined. They simply create a fantastic, platonic, musically-centered artistic connection (though Harry and Hermione will always take the platonic friendship cake). I don't want to give anything much away, but if you enjoyed "Once" also by writer/director John Carney you will adore this as well.

This look is an indie rockstar ensemble if you ask me. Whenever I wear cool-girl glitter pieces with any kind of boots I feel an Emily Haines (from Metric) vibe. I love these studded Guess shorts and a camera-printed tee from Urban Outfitters gives a fun, casual twist to it. It's the perfect outfit in which to walk around the city, sharing an earbud with your favorite musical companion, and then perhaps even play your own songs live at an open mic night. If you don't know what I'm talking about, go watch "Begin Again."
